Dutch health insurance companies

The Netherlands has a myriad of health insurance companies but most of them are owned by the big four: Achmea, CZ, Menzis and VGZ/Univé. Together they control 90% of the market.

Market leader (32%) Achmea: includes Zilveren Kruis, De Friesland, FBTO, Agis and ProLife

VGZ is a cooperative with 25% of the market – that’s 4.2 million policyholders

CZ: 3.2 million policyholders and 20% of the market. Brands include CZ, Delta Lloyd, OHRA

Menzis: Two million customers, making it number three in the market. Brands include Menzis, AnderZorg en Azivo.
